Guest Lounge

The cosy guest lounge  with woodburning stove is ideal for relaxing and talking about the exploits of the day and planning for tomorrow.

With high ceiling and stone slated floor (reclaimed  from the old roof!) it has plenty of character and a great fire for those colder autumn and Winter evenings.

We have lovely areas to sit outside and watch the birds feeding on the bird table,
plenty of space for car parking and secure ski and mountain bike storage.

 Drying room available.

Our Location

Centrally located in the Cairngorms National Park, less than l mile
 from Kingussie in a quiet
countryside location at 750 feet above sea level overlooking the RSPB  Bird Reserve and Ruthven Barracks

Ruthven Barracks were finally completed in 1721. In 1745, 200 Jacobites tried to capture Ruthven Barracks which was defended by a force of just 12 redcoats. Commanded by a Sergeant Molloy, the redcoats fought off the Jacobites with the loss of just one man.

The barracks were finally taken in February 1746 when the Jacobites returned in much larger numbers and more suitably equipped with artillery. On the 17th April 1746, Within a few days of the battle of Culloden, around 1,500 Jacobite soldiers gathered at Ruthven Barracks, ready to continue the campaign. To their surprise Charles Stewart gave the order to disperse and then went into hiding. For him, the Rising was over.

Golf has been played at Kingussie since 1891. In 1908 Kingussie sought the advice of Harry Vardon and extended the course to 18 holes. While some improvements and modifications have been made the course is still very much as it was – Highland Golf at its very best!

Chanonry point

Standing at the lighthouse at Chanonry point you can watch wild bottlenose dolphins

The best time to see them is when the incoming tide is rising and the dolphins are hunting for fish

We took these pictures on a very grey day and we watched them for about an hour
